Traditional French Restaurant in Amsterdam Holland Netherlands

Restaurant La Vallade in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam is warm, cozy, accessible, messy and romantic at the same time and seems to have been picked straight out of France, where the sun shines, life is good and the food is delicious. Restaurant La Vallade in Amsterdam was started 26 years ago on the same foundation as the popular French "menu routier" restaurants. Where the following applies: "Tu manges ou tu manges pas" in other words: "You eat or you don’t eat" For La Vallade's guests it feels just like home: what are we eating today? And just like at home, the food is always as honest as it is delicious.

Sustainable Restaurant in Amsterdam Holland

The menu of Restaurant La Vallade is based on a vegetarian basic menu, and if you want the menu can be supplemented with either meat or fish (depending on the menu). The chefs work with fresh ingredients, if possible from regular small-scale suppliers for vegetables, meat, fish and wine and they cook their own menu with a lot of love and craftsmanship. In this way together we fulfill our need to consciously deal with the world and everything that walks and grows on it.

The history of Restaurant La Vallade in Amsterdam

Restaurant La Vallade was founded in 1989 by Pauline and Tom - the parents of the current owner Tara Mulder - who sometimes wanted to go out for dinner with their large family. The Menu Routier formula ('eat what’s served) meant good quality for a normal price and that is still the case. Since Pauline passed away in 2018, in addition to a larger wine list, Restaurant La Vallade now proudly serves a house wine called ‘La Pauline’, and so Tara's special mother will always be there. "My mother was a social worker and my father a truck driver. There was not much money to start the Restaurant, the restaurant grew organically. Pauline had a great eye for entourage and hospitality. It is nice to honor her with this great wine." The idea for this special restaurant arose in the picturesque French village of La Vallade, where the family owned a small cottage and spent many summers. Tara: "My parents were very much involved in Amsterdam's nightlife and the catering industry. We had countless babysitters and nanny’s from various backgrounds, so that our parents could go out on their own. As children, we have been given the values of equality, independence and own identity. Always taking a step forward!"

Restaurant La Vallade is a flowery and colorful 'village' in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city of Amsterdam, a rural idyll in the city district of Watergraafsmeer, just a few blocks from the city center. This colorfulness is reflected in the people who work at the Restaurant for an average of 20 (!) Years. At Restaurant La Vallade, everyone is proud of the diversity, individuality and positivity of the La Vallade family. The sunny, large terrace is full of flower boxes and brocante items, the love that Tara's parents had for France they also put into the Restaurant. And it still continuous...
